Keyless theft often works by capturing the signal from your key fob, sometimes while it is inside your house. A few simple habits make it harder, and the right equipment makes it harder still.
Block the signal
Keep your fob in a signal-blocking pouch or tin when you are at home, and keep it away from doors and windows.
Turn off keyless entry
Many cars let you turn off the fob's signal or put it to sleep. Check your handbook, or ask your dealer.
Visible deterrents
A steering lock or similar device is cheap and visible and may push a thief to choose another car.
Add an immobiliser
A device such as a Ghost immobiliser makes the engine need a PIN, so a relayed or cloned key alone cannot start the car.
Add a tracker
A tracker will not stop a theft, but it can help locate the car and support recovery. Some insurers ask for one on higher-risk cars.
Common questions
Does a signal pouch really work?
A good one blocks the key's signal, which helps against relay attacks. Test it by checking the car will not unlock with the fob inside.
Is my car at risk?
Many keyless cars have been targeted. If you are unsure, ask your insurer or check the make's reported theft history.
Can I keep a tracker and an immobiliser together?
Yes. They do different jobs, and many drivers fit both.
Can you fit them at my home?
Yes. We attend across the UK.
