How Does a Ghost Immobiliser Work?

How a Ghost immobiliser protects your car from keyless theft, what the PIN does and what to know before fitting one.

Modern cars are often stolen without the key ever being taken, using relay devices or electronic tools. A Ghost immobiliser is one way to add an extra barrier.

The basic idea

A Ghost immobiliser connects to the car's internal electronics and stops the engine running until a PIN is entered. The PIN is entered using the car's own buttons, so there is no separate fob.

Why that helps

Keyless theft relies on a thief being able to start the car with a copied or relayed key signal. If the engine also needs a PIN, the signal alone is not enough.

Setting your PIN

You choose a PIN made up of presses of the car's own controls, which varies by vehicle. We set it up with you and show you how to change it.

Servicing and valets

When the car goes to a garage, the immobiliser can be put into a service mode, so that the PIN does not need to be shared.

What it will not do

No device makes a car theft-proof. A Ghost immobiliser works best alongside good habits, such as keeping fobs in a signal-blocking pouch, and a tracker to help recovery.

Common questions

Will it affect my warranty?

Fitting a security device can be raised with your manufacturer. Ask your dealer if you are concerned.

What if I forget my PIN?

Keep a record somewhere safe. We can advise on resetting it for your unit.

Does it fit every car?

Not every model. Give us your registration and we will check before booking.

Can I still use keyless entry?

Yes. The immobiliser works on starting the engine, not on unlocking the doors.
